Birdability: As a way to include as many people as possible in our events, we have added a “Bird-Sit” component to what would otherwise be known as a typical “Bird Walk”. For some locations that would mean walking the designated trails or paths. For those who decide they are unable or do not wish to do the companion Bird Walk, we have a designated area for those who prefer to sit and enjoy birding without the walking, hence the name Bird Sit. Bird Sit participants may be those with mobility (ambulatory) issues; those with visual impairments, including those without any vision; or those who just don’t want to do the Bird Walk component for whatever reason but want to see or listen for birds from a secure location. Participants will be informed before the outing begins as to the trails to be walked and the designated sit area, answer questions, and accommodate respective choices. In the event someone with very low vision, or no vision, would like to experience the bird walk part, we may insist that a sighted guide accompany them, for their safety; this will be discussed before the outing begins. We will have experienced birders present throughout the birding outing who will be available for both the walking part and also for the sitting part. Birds fly, go hither and yon, and will end up where they will, whether one walks or sits. Method of birding chosen promises to be a true birding experience.  “Birdability Friendly” describes an outdoor space, trail, or birding outing that is welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for people with disabilities, health concerns, or mobility challenges.
